Course Overview

Our LLM Business Law with Work Experience is a specialized program designed to equip students with in-depth knowledge, critical thinking skills, and practical experience in the dynamic field of business law. The curriculum offers a comprehensive foundation through two compulsory modules: Corporate Governance (exclusive to LLM in Business Law students) and a compulsory elective (Company Law, Employment Law, or Legal Risk and Compliance). The program follows a blended learning approach, combining two-hour seminars per week with engaging online activities. With a strong emphasis on accessibility and inclusivity, the School aims to foster a sense of community, provide diverse opportunities, and enhance employability in line with the university's strategic objective of 'Transforming Lives.' Semesters A and B feature two modules each, covering essential aspects of business law. Additionally, students participate in a Research Methods and Skills seminar in the first semester to develop academic writing and research skills. In Semesters B and C, students work on their dissertation under the guidance of an expert supervisor. The Company Law module delves into fundamental and contemporary aspects, exploring topics such as incorporation, shareholder and director rights and duties, governance, and available remedies. Employment Law examines employment status, contract terms, and Equality Law. The Legal Risk Module introduces project management concepts within the context of risk management, addressing core challenges and relevant regulatory frameworks. The Corporate Governance module covers theories, laws, and practices in corporate governance. The program emphasizes practical learning through diverse teaching and assessment methods. Expert-led sessions are complemented by group activities, role-playing, discussions, and debates. These interactive elements enhance presentation skills, negotiation proficiency, and practical application of knowledge. The optional Placement Year further provides hands-on experience, aligning with the program's goal of preparing students for successful careers in the dynamic field of business law.
