Course Overview

This Master's degree is designed to focus on career development, providing an exceptional opportunity for students to craft a professional portfolio of original compositions for media and screen content, showcasing their talent to global audio-visual communities. The primary goal of this course is to equip individuals for self-employment in the visual media industries. Participants will gain an understanding of how music composition and scoring intersect with the broader visual media sector, exploring potential new technical opportunities. Graduates will be proficient in various compositional methods, acquiring knowledge in traditional scoring techniques as well as delving into sound design. This knowledge will be integrated with expertise in multimedia production and narrative composition through sound. Students will have the chance to experiment with various scoring techniques, employing both instrumentation and technology. The Master of Arts in Music for Screen provides students with the unique opportunity to write for and record with a full orchestra. They will learn from a distinguished faculty composed of professional composers, music producers, sound engineers, and esteemed international guest lecturers from the Hollywood film, TV, and games scoring communities. Students can also participate in a foreign research trip centered around two international film scoring symposia. During this trip, students will learn, engage, and network, preparing them for diverse career options in the multimedia marketplace while connecting with the broader international scoring community to finalize their Major Project research proposal. The program covers specific scoring skills, including fundamental and advanced scoring techniques, principles and technologies of experimental music composition, score analysis, orchestration and arranging, music and audio-visual technology, studio conducting and score supervision, as well as industry and business planning preparation. Upon completing this course, participants will be prepared to establish themselves as self-employed professional composers or join established companies in the visual media industries. The program targets skilled and qualified individuals in the creative music industries seeking to advance their careers creatively.
